Hisarya Municipality is in northwestern Plovdiv Province, located 44 kilometers north of Plovdiv and 24 kilometers south of Karlovo via national route 64. It has its administrative center in the eponymous town of Hisarya. The name Hisarya comes from the Turkish word hisar, meaning fort or castle.
The area is well known for archaeological remains including the Roman town of Diocletianopolis (today Hisarya) and the Starosel Thracian burial complex.

Hisarya Municipality is located in the northwestern part of Plovdiv Province. It is bordered by Karlovo Municipality to the north, Kaloyanovo Municipality to the southeast, Saedinenie Municipality to the south, Strelcha Municipality to the west, and Koprivshtitsa Municipality (Sofia Province) to the northwest. It has an area of 550 square kilometers, making it the third largest municipality in the province.

Hisarya enjoys diverse topography ranging from the upper Thracian lowlands in the south to the foothills of the Sredna Gora in the north. The highest point is Shiligarka Peak (1577 meters, 5174 feet), located on the ridge forming the northern border of the municipality with Karlovo. The lowest point measures 254 meters above sea level, in the Pyasachnik riverbed south of the Pyasachnik Reservoir, on the border with Saedinenie Municipality.
The municipality is watered by rivers and streams flowing south and east out of the Sredna Gora. About two thirds of the municipality falls within the catchment basin of the Pyasachnik River, whose waters collect in the Pyasachnik Reservoir for irrigation use. The Kavardzhikliyska River flows south 24 kilometers (15 miles) from Karasivri peak, passing through Hisarya town on its way to the Cinyata Reka (Blue River) Reservoir.

balneotourism – on the basis of the mineral springs in the town of Hissarya and the village of Krasnovo many balneological centers and sanatoriums have been built. Treatment procedures are performed for a number of diseases. The new hotels also offer spa treatments for relaxation and pleasure – aromatherapy, thalassotherapy, phytotherapy, classical and oriental massages, music therapy and more. hunting tourism – the municipality has ideal conditions for hunting and fishing – 4 hunting fields with a variety of game and dozens of clean and stocked dams. The hunting association has equipment and guides.
