Godech Municipality is in Sofia Province, about 50 kilometers (30 miles) north of the capital along Route 81, the Lomsko schosse. The administrative center is the city of Godech.
The History of Godech Municipality
The Godech area has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Archaeological excavations show that both the Thracians and Romans lived in these parts. The Thracian tribe Treri, which means forest people, lived here among the old beech and oak forests.
The first mention of Godech by name occurs in Ottoman records from 1453.

Godech Municipality has an area of 374,680 square kilometers (144665 square miles). It encompasses the wide valley of the Nishava river and the surrounding hills of the Western Balkan Mountains.
The population of Godech Municipality is about 5000 people. Over 4000 are settled in the city of Godech, with the rest spread out among its 19 surrounding villages.
The Nishava River runs through the center of Godech, providing a ready water supply for farming and other uses.
There are two main employers in the town.
