The Golden Dolphin International Puppet Festival is a major gathering of puppet theatre professionals, held in Bulgaria only once every three years. The 15th edition takes place in Varna from 1-6 October 2011.
The goals of the festival are to assist the development of Bulgarian dramaturgy for puppet theatre, to popularize the the achievements of the Bulgarian puppet theatre art, to introduce new trends from around the world, and to contribute to closer relationships between puppet and theatrical professionals from different countries.
Workshops covering a wide scope of topics related to the theory and practice of puppet theatre are included within the festival framework.
Competition Format
Professional puppet theatres may apply to participate in the Golden Dolphin with productions which have been staged since the last edition of the festival.
Competitive entries are considered for awards in three categories:
- Production of a new Bulgarian puppet play or production of an adapted work (new since the last festival).
- Puppet theatre production for children.
- Puppet theatre production for adults.
An international jury awards honours and prize money for dramaturgy, stage production, artistry, stage design and music.
