Bulgaria is amongst the countries with the longest traditions of winemaking. Its annual trade fair, Vinaria, held at International Fair – Plovdiv, is one of the best ways for hundreds of producers and traders to show their products to the market. This wine festival provides new opportunities for thousand of connoisseurs, producers and industry professionals from more than 30 countries, many of them who come every year to delight in the unique wines and sniff out business opportunities. It gathers leaders from major companies and branches associated with the cultivation of vines and the production of wines and spirits, acting as a centre for exchange of information, innovations and technologies.
On certain days, the general public is also invited to come to the halls of International Fair – Plovdiv and taste the wines of Bulgarian and regional producers.
The National Wine and Spirits Tasting is the most prestigious competition for the evaluation of Bulgarian wines and spirits. It is organised during Vinaria by the National Vine and Wine Chamber.
This year, organisers expect Vinaria to be all the more attractive because of the participation of South Africa as a partner. Represented will be the wine which will be drunk this year during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Other participants come from Austria, Hungary and Italy.
Bulgarian wines made from locally grown organic grapes will be shown for the first time at the 2010 Vinaria. Vintners hope that their goods will be well received by wine-lovers in Bulgaria and abroad.
At the festival, for the second time, there will be a separate department called Gourmet, where stands and presentations by manufacturers and importers of high-quality products associated with wine – food and spices, tobacco, services and accessories, specialised publications – can be visited.
At the traditional annual ball “Wine And Love, Love And Wine”, the prizes are conferred by International Fair – Plovdiv. These include the grand prize, the Golden Rhyton; numerous diplomas for the categories of Wine Of The Year and Honoured; and golden, silver and bronze medals.
