Democratic Acrobatics

An article critical of the government, especially certain ministers accused of cruelty, loss of state assets, and unfavorable business dealings. The article calls the responsible ministers “mischief makers.” The author also warns that leaving this “rotten” cabinet in office will be devastating for the nation.

Celebrations in Plovdiv

Celebrations took place in Plovdiv and throughout Bulgaria on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the union of Eastern Rumelia with the Bulgarian principality in 1885. Many guests participated from Sofia and neighboring villages. The best impressions were made by the guests from Goliamo Konartsi and the Sofia volunteer organization.

Union Against Bulgaria

In a setback for Bulgarian foreign policy, Romania and Turkey signed a military union which, in its main clauses, was directed against Bulgaria. The parties denied the treaty, and the Bulgarian government remained silent on the matter.

Are the Actions of the Hisar Doctor Moral?

A great noise made of an incident which happened between one Dr. Pandurov and three young ladies, who were bathing without permission. The Doctor entered into the bath to lodge a complaint while the three naked ladies were bathing. A great protest erupted against the doctor because it was immoral and for him to enter into a place where naked women were present.

The Parliamentary Commission and its Reforms

An article describing two committees appointed by Parliament at its last session. The first was tasked with investigating the actions of the ministries. The author laments that the committee works in secrecy and that key members apparently lack the stomach to uncover constitutional and other legal violations by the present regime. The second committee was charged with investigating the organization of the government and what changes might be made. It has been accused of seeking “cheap glory” by criticizing recent reform efforts in the Ministry of Finance rather than providing new suggestions.

Peace in the Balkans

A report on a meeting between the Austrian and Italian Prime Ministers hailed as a major political event. The exchanges of ideas and points of view between the two prime ministers about the situation in the Near East and in Turkey is important to promote economic development as a contributor to stability and peace in the Balkans.

Jubilee of the Unification of Bulgaria

A special commission was created to plan and organize the celebration of the union of Eastern Rumelia and the Principality of Bulgaria in 1885. On the eve of this celebration, speeches will be delivered in all schools to inform students about the importance of this very great historical holiday. A special project was proposed for the building of a people’s monument in Plovdiv to commemorate the event. The commission organized a petition in support of the monument.

Obvious Thanks

The Trifonov family from Ruse expressed their thanks to the American firm, New York Life Assurance Company and its director for Bulgaria, Mr. Georgov, because its local representative was able to secure quickly for them the burial expenses of their husband and father. The Trifonov family recommended this life insurance company to all people who think about their relatives and who want to insure their lives because in their opinion it is the most solid and dependable choice.

Turkish Insolence

An article critical of the Turkish newspapers who use offensive language towards Bulgaria, including speculative statements from Turkish military and political leaders concerning future hostilities between the countries. The authors call on the Bulgarian government to defend their national honor against Turkish arrogance, invoking the memory of the great Bulgarian patriots as an example to be followed.

Senseless Order

The Plovdiv City Council issued a special order forbidding bakers from starting work at their usual midnight hour. Instead, they were instructed to start work at 0800 like all other employers in the city.
