Zemen is a town in Pernik Province, western Bulgaria, and the administrative seat of Zemen Municipality. The town, formerly called Belovo, appeared in manuscripts under that name as early as the 16th century. The town name was changed to Zemen in 1925.
Thracians settled in the region of today’s Zemen between 1500-1000 BCE.

Zemen is located in a mountainous area along the path of the Struma river, which flows through the northern part of the town. It is 40 kilometers by road southwest of Pernik, and a 30 kilometer drive north from Kyustendil.
